Anybody remember Darius back in 1996-1999?

Some Darius shenanigans popped in my head from 23 years ago. I tried to look him up and looks like he passed away at 36 back in 2014

I was shocked to read that. RIP Ian!

Ian was a special guy. He helped me sort through a lot of things I didn't understand before I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. For a guy I never met in person and someone I might not have been as close to as some of you guys were, he had a profound influence on my life.

Thanks for remembering him.

Code: Select all

Decrepit Graveyard
The razorwire fence was put up only after the old cemetary had been vandalized from a
skinhead rally last decade. Now the place is deserted. Weeds have long ago overtaken
fallen tombstones, and the neomarble crypts, their doors torn off, look like gasping
death itself. Off in one corner, though, there is a tombstone that looks to be newer, the
letters still sharp on its surface. The stench of bodies buried, scores deep, takes a while
to get used to. But signs of people living in the crypts prove that, to some, the filth was
home. Others came for drugs, or solace and silence, or for a route to the underground.
A thick cable stretches over the graveyard, sloping down to the east.
A sharply cut tombstone stands astride its fellows, a granite coffee mug bolted to its
foundation. The dark marble is speckled with a glimmer of silica. A tombstone apparently
built of motorcycle parts occupies a quiet corner. In a lavish corner of the area lies a
jade green tombstone, surrounded by mounds of artificial roses from Bangkok's renound
flower shops. You notice the name 'Yuki' engraved on the tombstone. Sticking from the
ground in a lonely corner of the Decrepit Graveyard, is a single set of broken razorclaws.
A simple marker stands here, a small balloon featuring a mug of beer is anchored to it.
It dances back and forth on a careless wind. A marble slab is embedded in the ground,
marked with a chiselled word. A sturdy wooden memorial stands here.
It is now winter.
Cold, blinding drops of grey rain are coming down.
You can go east (e).
> l slab
The slab is simple, free from ostentation. It sits alone and forlorn in the graveyard and
bears only the name "DARIUS" chiselled deeply into its face. A ratty and weatherbeaten
Milwaukee Brewers baseball cap has been left on the corner of the slab.

I met Darius and Bullseye at MB2K, albeit briefly. Both good dudes. A reminder that some of the biggest clowns are usually hiding the deepest pain because they don't want anyone else to feel like they feel.

Oh you guys knew? Yeah he was a great guy. After I quit the game more or less I lost touch with Ian and Rob. Rahvin (Bill) was my roommate and we are still somewhat connected. Josef Virek lived across the hall from me freshman year and I haven't seen him since.

I thought most people quit after Mr Simon convinced Gregory to reset the game. Life kind of moved on for me. Now I'm 43 and married with 2 kids. I can't believe you people still play.

I’m 47, married 20 years and I still play!

And my only regret is that I didn’t steal the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile and go on a bloody rampage before some dick made it disappear.

Well that sucks.

I've been busy with school the past 10 years, to where I could only pop on hit and miss. Didn't know he'd pass now 11 years. Sadness.

I wonder how many more we've lost in the past 30 years since I started playing. Saying that just makes me feel really.
As the city's reactor core went critical, a billowing purple cloud of gas spread through the area.
Outside, Smitty said: "Mind if I grab a ride with you, Bungle?"
The Ford Mustang drove away to the north at full speed.
Smitty: "Fuck..."
