This is more than likely a temporary change as we revamp how socials work. For the time being most socials have been removed from play to help promote roleplay.

Code: Select all

@social

Social verbs currently available:
--------------------
smile nod stare shudder grovel
fr*own giggle snap afk smirk
laugh snicker glare no curse
gr*in cough eye yes cackle
wave brow sigh gasp snort
spit blink growl yawn eek
chuckle wink roll cringe
bow shrug grumble sob
--------------------

I've stripped out a lot of the CHARACTER and FUN from these verbs, so you'll now just see "You laugh at <person>." instead of "You laugh heartily at <person>, jabbing a finger in <their> direction."

This is because we're trying to gently encourage you to actually use your typing skills for more than one or two words at a time.

Additionally, all of the above now work in three ways.

If you type the social on its own, you'll get the expected response, i.e. "nod" -> "You nod".
If you type the social with a name, you'll be social to that person, i.e. "nod Kingpin" -> "You nod to Kingpin".
If you type the social with anything else, it'll act as a gateway to pose, i.e. "nod thoughtfully, scratching my balls" is the same as typing ".nod thoughtfully..." and will result in everyone in the room thinking you have crabs.

I snuck in a couple of fixes with this, so now some ahabs who are expecting a "nod" will respond to a "yes" social (which is basically just a nod), but they'll now also respond to a .nod pose if you feel so inclined. Depending on the ahab, the pose may need to involve them directly, so ".nod hurriedly to Kingpin" should give the expected results.

Starting poses with other verbs may provoke different reactions from different ahabs.

Also I added eek back in because the eek face is an essential roleplaying tool /s

Ptolemais makes the 'eek' face at Rain.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Oh wow, The socials turning into a pose is actually something I've considered asking for in the past. I used to type "nod CharacterName yes I agree" a lot, mixing up social and talk.

Yeah, that still won't work. You'd trigger the pose code there and just get "You nod CharacterName yes I agree".

Suggestion, bring back the fuck and bird socials, and combine them so that typing "fuck" has your character say fuck, and fuck <name> has your character flip the other character the bird.

Why? Because cursing should be low effort. I understand the desire to encourage people to write poses, but it should absolutely not take more than 8 keystrokes to give somebody the middle finger in game. It's just as important as yes/no in a place like new Carthage.

Man, I didn't even know about this list. I just went through it -- cackle, snort, and eek don't work. Should they?
