Cybersphere's text-based virtual reality requires a telnet client in order to run on your computer/workstation. However, its graphics are faster, richer, and clearer than any Glide or D3D accelerated game you've ever played. Its image textures are impossibly complex and won't fit onto any known video card chipset. Its music and ambient sounds defy digitization on the latest wavetable cards.

Cybersphere runs on the most sophisticated multimedia engine ever devised:

Your imagination.

-- The above was written in around '98 and we apologise profusely for the level of cheese in it.

You may connect to Cybersphere by using any of the following methods:

Our web client

Or by connecting to the following addresses via any MUD/MUSH/MOO client.

www.cybersphere.net port 7777

or

www.cybersphere.net port 6969

If you are unfamiliar with MUD clients, a list of suitable clients has been provided below.

Once Connected

If this is your very first time connecting, type:

connect guest

and hit return. You'll be connected as a guest character, and will be able to wander through Cybersphere's virtual world on your own, as a visitor. Want to play for real? Type

@request

...and you'll begin the character application process. If approved, you'll eventually receive an email message informing you of the login and password for your new character. Instructions will be provided about how to log on, and how to change your password.

Clients

There are a variety of quick, simple, customizable, and convenient clients out there that you can use to connect to Cybersphere. Here's a very basic list:

BeipMU (Windows / Windows Store / WINE)

BeipMU is a tiny (1MB!) but feature packed MU* client that provides an assortment of features beyond simple telnet without adding clutter. Started in 1998 and still under active development (as at 2019), BeipMU grew thanks to user suggestions, so if something is missing or could be improved please let them know!

Mudlet (Any PC OS)

Mudlet is a feature rich M** client that offers a similar feature set to many of the other top clients with the added ability to apply graphical themes / skins that can be integrated with some M** servers.

MUSHclient (Windows / WINE)

MUSHclient has a few less features than zMUD and CMUD, but is more stable. It has a simple, no-frills interface and scrolls very smoothly when large paragraphs of text appear. In fact, in terms of text display performance, it is one of the quickest clients out there.

TinyFugue (Windows)

TinyFugue leaves behind the fancy scroll bars, windows, and pulldown menus of traditional clients and is the ultimate in text-only interfaces. It's perfect for playing CS through a remote login or UNIX workstation. Plus, the text looks unsuspicious to supervisors and bosses at work.

zMUD (WinXP) and CMUD (Windows Vista+)

zMUD and CMUD are well-developed and feature-packed clients that have everything from mapping aids to sound enhancements.
